Victor Karpowich 65 of Freeland passed away Monday afternoon April 14 at the VA Medical Center, Wilkes Barre following a 5 month battle with cancer.
Born in Hazleton he was the son of the late Victor John and Mary Catherine (Heckler) Karpowich.
He was a Freeland High School and Hazleton Vo Tech Computer science graduate receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from Troy State University Montgomery Alabama also pursuing a master’s degree from St. Joseph’s University Philadelphia.
Victor was a quiet person who enjoyed gaming especially strategy games, reading murder Mysteries and Science Fiction books.
He was an honorably discharged Air Force Staff Sgt. Receiving the Meritorious Service Award. After his military service he retired as a computer programmer from various large technology companies including Sperry.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was Sister; Christine Zaludek and Susan Gorski – Karpowich.
Surviving are his brother; James and Sister; Kathryn Karpowich both of Freeland. Nephew; Jon Gorski. Nieces; Toni (Gorski) Kaplan and Lena (Rinkus) Quinn. Several aunts, uncles, cousins and the family kitty Amber also survive.
American Legion post 473 will accord military services Friday 12:30 pm in Freeland Cemetery. Rev. Michael Kloton will officiate.
Friends may gather at the Freeland cemetery on Friday prior to services.
