Irene C. Howanitz

Irene C. Howanitz, 89, formally of Freeland, residing in Macungie, PA passed away unexpectantly, Monday December 16, 2024, at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.
 
Born in Eckley on September 15,1935 she was the daughter of the late Michael and Veronica (Petro) Olenick.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, Freeland.
Before retiring she was a Residential Care Aide for the former White Haven Center for over 20 years.
Irene enjoyed attending Catholic masses, playing bingo and doing word search puzzles, putting together puzzles, cooking, baking, making pierogies, fudge and playing games and reading the news on her iPad. She enjoyed traveling to Florida, Nashville, and Hawaii with her family. Most importantly she enjoyed spending time with her family and sharing stories of the past. Her endless compassion brightened everyone’s day.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was Brothers; Daniel, Albert, and Michael. Sisters; Anna Vaskalis, Theresa Glowatch, and Bernice Marsyada.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years Thomas. Son; Thomas and his wife Jennifer- Orefield. Brother; Robert Olenick and his wife Gerry- Winter Garden, FL; Sister; Carol Ann Ferrari- Drums. Grandchildren; Corin, Ashley, and Lindsey. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday 10am in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish 868 Centre St. Freeland. 
Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.
