John T. Kanuck 90 of Freeland passed away Wednesday February 4 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton.
Born October 23, 1935 in Drifton he was the son of the late John and Helen (Sokol) Kanuck.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Freeland where he was an original male choir member, a former member of St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Hazleton, and a 1953 graduate of Hazle Twp. High School.
John loved teaching his granddaughter how to bowl also attending all of her games, sporting events of his grandchildren, watching Eagles and Penn State football, the Philadelphia Phillies, and working out at Gerries fitness.
Before retiring he was a meat cutter for local supermarkets.
Preceding him death in addition to his parents was his wife Dolores M. 2019. Brother; David and Sister; Eleanor Nemchick.
Surviving are his Son; John and his wife Diane Kanuck. Daughters; Donna and her husband Matthew Mellinger and Deborah and her husband Jerry Rollman. Sister; Janet Stebnitsky. Grandchildren; Zachary, Jacob, Matthew, Adam, and Tabatha. Great grandson; Luke and Nieces; Tina Woldt and Heather Wills also survive.
Funeral will be held Friday February 13,10am from the McNulty Funeral Home 494 East Butler Dr. Freeland with Office of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30am. Panachida will be Friday morning at the funeral home.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday February 12 from 6 to 8 pm.
Donations can be made to St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church 643 Fern St. Freeland.
Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
