Michael J. Bogansky Sr. 88 of the Middletown section in Hazle Township passed away Thursday November 16th at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. His childhood home was in Swamptown until his home was razed to make way for coal mining.

Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna (Kushma) Bogansky.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish at St. Ann’s Church, a former member of Saint John Nepomoucene Roman Catholic Church, Freeland and a graduate of Hazle Township High School.

Before retiring he was the owner/operator of Mike Bogansky General Contractor until 1978 when he became a superintendent of commercial construction. Some of his pinnacle projects that he oversaw include the Freeland Village, Freeland Senior Homes, Blue Mountain High School, and Bellefonte Nursing Home. Mike was a very talented craftsman and carpenter.

Mike loved his grandchildren, New York Yankee’s Baseball, and watching wildlife on his patio. One of his favorite pastimes was riding around town and the local mines to keep an eye on the operations. He was a wealth of knowledge on local history, especially in mining and dragline shovels. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing in Canada and hunting big game on horseback across the United States, Canada, and the Arctic Circle where he once fed a wild arctic fox by hand. Mike was a lifelong member and past president of the Jeddo Stars Athletic Association where he cared deeply about the wellbeing of the organization.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were an Infant Daughter, Daughter; Deborah, Brother; John, and Sisters; Margaret, Catherine, Marie, and Emma.

He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving is his Wife of 67 years the former Diane Crofcheck. Sons; Michael Jr. and spouse Diane, David and spouse Dylan, and Marcus and partner John Bloshinski. Daughter; Michaelene Panzarella and partner Michael Kiehl. Grandchildren; Tony Panzarella and spouse Christy, Michael C. and spouse Miranda, Megan and partner Donald Aleckna, Courtney and fiancé Zac Bowman, and Emily Cremi and spouse Kevin. Great Grandchilden; Sofia, Lilah, and Landon. Step grandchildren; Emily Brozzoski and Caitlin Quinn and spouse Jay. Step great grandchildren; Leo, Charlie, Chase, and Aiden also survive.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am on Saturday November 18th 2023 at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish, 898 Centre St. Freeland.

Friends may call at the church Saturday from 10 to 11am.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jeddo Stars Children’s Christmas Party, 73 Jeddo Stars Lane Freeland PA 18224, or a charity of one’s choice.
