Joseph J. Falatko, 71, of Freeland, died Friday at Wilkes Barre General Hospital. Born December 26th, 1950, he was the proud son of the late Joe & Agnes Falatko, of Freeland. Joseph graduated from Freeland High School in 1968 and received a business degree from LCCC in 1976. He then went on to work in the food service equipment industry for 34 years at Garland and Therma-Tek Range. In retirement, he worked part-time for Boscov’s for 6 years.

Throughout Joseph’s full life, he enjoyed playing softball in the Freeland Northside League, traveling to major cities and various countries & being a part of local bands such as The Odd Powers and Peach.  He spent time metal detecting, visiting flea markets and building his Star Trek collection.  He helped create commercials, scripts, training videos and even special event videography. Joe often reminisced about a Christmas vacation in the 70s, where he traveled through the Panama Canal and swam in both the Atlantic & Pacific Oceans – on the same day! He loved his adventures over the years & was always prepared to tell you a story.

Surviving is the love of his life & wife of 19 years, the former Kathy Shewack, his beautiful daughters Sarah Falatko & Carrie Sowinski, his son-in-law, Michael Sowinski and grandchildren Savannah & Joshua. He is also survived by step-son, Patrick Gallagher, his wife Jennifer and their children, Tabitha & Evan. Joseph is survived by his siblings, Cy Falatko & wife Monica, Larry Falatko & wife Lynn, Anita Broyan & husband Robert, Alice Budda and husband Martin & Aileen Kazinetz & husband Simon, and numerous nieces and nephews.
