John Bernosky from Freeland and most recently Glenbrook in Berwick passed away on August 21, 2023. He was a member of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Freeland.
Born in Girardville, he was the son of the late Peter and Helen (Zakrzewska) Bernosky. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Alice (Herness) Bernosky in 2018 and brothers Raymond, Leo, and Donald along with sisters Dorothy, Faye, Genevieve, Marie, Yvonne, Adrienne. He was the last member of his family.
He is also survived by a daughter, Valerie McAnnaney and spouse Robert, grandsons Aaron and his partner, Jasmyn, Steve and his wife, Lindsey and Evan, great grandchildren, Aunalee, Livianna, Carson, Tyson and Ariana. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.
John had several careers during his lifetime. He learned the upholstery trade while working with his brother Ray as a boy. He entered the service as an Airman apprentice at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and was later stationed at the Naval Air Station in Memphis, Tenn. After being honorably discharged, he continued to work in various aspects of machinery repair and process engineering eventually a hot isostatic press operator while working for Kawecki Berylco in Hazleton until the plant closed. While employed there, he was part of the team that manufactured some of the components for the lunar lander, Intrepid, which was part of the Appollo 12 mission. He continued his career for the State of PA as a maintenance repairman at Bloomsburg University and eventually retiring from the White Haven Center.
John will be laid to rest at the convenience of the family. John’s family requests any donations in his memory be made to ADERS, 900 Buffalo Rd., Suite 1, Lewisburg, Pa 17837. The McNulty Funeral Home 494 East Butler Dr. Freeland is assisting the family in this time of need.
