James McDermott

February 2, 1933 - August 3, 2023

James McDermott 90 of Freeland passed away at his home while surrounded by his family.

Born in Freeland he was the son of the late James and Veronica (Sabol) McDermott.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish at St. Ann’s Church, Freeland and was a graduate of St. Ann’s High School, Freeland.

James was an honorably discharged Army Paratrooper serving the 82^nd Airborne Division with the rank of Corporal.

Before retiring he was a meat manager for ACME Supermarket’s and  Gennetti’s.

James loved fishing, gardening, story telling, joking around, computers, I Pads, and watching sports especially Norte Dame football.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was  Brother- Joseph and Sister- Madlin.

Surviving is his wife of 66 years the former Mary Bellas. Son-James and his wife Anna. Daughters- Donna and her husband Tom LaPorte and Sharon and her husband Bobby Baran. Sister-Cathy and her husband Joseph Matisak. Grandchildren- Tiffany and her husband Chris, Jimmy, Taylor, Mariah, Allie, Corey and his wife Amanda and Kailea. Great grandchildren- Chase, Gracie, and Edie. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friend may call at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church 898 Centre St. Freeland on Tuesday August 8 from 9:30 to 10am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am.

Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Freeland.
