William R. Troell Jr. 97 a lifelong resident of Freeland passed away Saturday July 20 at Mt. Top Rehabilitation and Healthcare.
Born in Upper Lehigh he was the son of the late William and Mary (Grohol) Troell.
He attended Foster Township school.
William enlisted in the Navy at age 17 after Boot camp at Camp Perry Virginia he was trained in the Signal Corps and was assigned to the ARL Typhoon an Amphibious repair landing vessel. After service he was an honorably discharged Navy veteran serving during WWII.
He was a life memberĀ of the VFW Post 5010 where he was a past trustee, American Legion Post 473, and the former Elks lodge 1145.
William enjoyed hunting, Gene Boyles’ cabin, taking his wife shopping, and crossword puzzles.
He was employed for 38 years by PP&L beginning his career as a laborer in the construction department in 1951. He advanced to groundman, truck driver, equipment operator and before assuming his final position in 1983 retiring as a construction foreman-structural at the nuclear power plant.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was Wife; Margaret Mary 2005. Brother; Joseph Troell. Daughter; Kathleen Troell. Sisters; Marion Bacher and Mildred Martinceck.
Surviving are Son; William “Moose” and his finacee Christine-Florida. Daughter; Margaret and her husband Joe Moore-Freeland. Brothers; Edward; Virgina and Ronald and his wife Pat; Pennsylvania. Sisters; Martha Malletz; Beaver Meadows, Mary Ann Wilson; Freeland, Dolores Sitch; Hazleton. Grandchildren; Melissa Cabe and her husband Jason and Stacy Moore. Great Grandchildren; Alex and Nathaniel Cabe. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral will be held Saturday July 27 11am from the McNulty Funeral Home 494 East Butler Dr. Freeland.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 to 11am.
Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Freeland.
