Wayne George Rohall, age 88, of Reading, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024. Born on September 4, 1935, in West Hazleton, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late John and Catherine (Rupert) Rohall. Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, John R. Rohall and son, Wayne Robert Rohall.
Wayne proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957 achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant, where he served in South Korea as a tactical communications Fire Team Chief where he fulfilled his duties with excellence and dedication. He pursued higher education at Albright College, earning a degree in Physics through many years of taking night classes while working full-time and supporting his family. Wayne had a distinguished career as a technician and engineer with Western Electric, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies, where he was instrumental in the implementation of fiber optic communications technology. He was also a contributor to the start of Silicon Cert Laboratories.
A devout member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church in Reading, Wayne passed along his faith to his family. He was a man of many interests, including hunting, fishing, photography, rebuilding cars, camping, golfing and snowmobiling, all of which reflected his love for the outdoors and mechanics. He was known as Mr. Fix-it, as he could fix and repair almost anything. He was talented and detail-oriented taking on any project around the house from adding a covered concrete patio to replacing windows and the siding, in addition to installing outdoor lighting and remodeling the kitchen. He would offer help to anyone who needed a hand.
Wayne is survived by his loving and caring wife, Eleanor (McNulty) Rohall; his daughters, Linda (Rohall) Richardson and her husband Steve Richardson, Cary, NC; and Mary (Rohall) Hendricks and her husband Ed Hendricks, Jr., Wilmington, DE; daughter-in-law Lisa (Pauley) Rohall, Blandon; and sons, David and his wife, Susan (Shober) Rohall, Clermont, FL; and Robert and life partner Steve Barbon, Reading; and his loving sister, Mary Ann (Rohall) Makara and her husband, Michael, Tampa, FL. He was affectionately known as Pop Pop by his twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with two more great-grandchildren on the way.
He was a kind, caring, and dependable husband, father, and friend whose presence enriched the lives of those around him. He had a wonderful smile and always had a Dad-joke to tell. He was always glad to see everyone and made everyone feel loved and welcome.
The Rohall family is being assisted by the McNulty Funeral Home 494 East Butler Dr. Freeland, Pennsylvania. Wayne assisted his father-in-law, Robert Patrick McNulty (deceased 1970) with tasks within the McNulty Funeral Home in the 1960s.
