Michael Robert Gabriel, 67, passed away Tuesday morning, November 8th, at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown.
Born on February 9, 1949, he is the son of Helen (Klutchko) and the late Lawrence Gabriel.
Michael was raised in Freeland, PA by Helen and Nicholas Siroki. He attended St. Ann’s High School and Williamsport Area Community College, majoring in Mechanical Drawing and Design. A meticulous draftsman who was well-respected by coworkers, Michael worked as a Tool & Die Engineer at Smith Corona, Bechtel, Dorr-Oliver, Allsteel, and Penn Engineering.
In his youth he served as an altar boy at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church. In order to earn money to purchase his first electric guitar, he dug graves for the church and delivered soda for local beverage distributors. He performed in various local garage bands during the mid-1960’s, and developed an interest in American muscle cars.
In 1969, Michael married Patricia Ann Kardisco of Upper Lehigh, and raised two sons Michael and Matthew in Hazleton.
During his professional career, he led and managed various engineering projects in the office equipment and automobile industries.
Michael had a knack for storytelling and finding humor in daily circumstances; he was an avid hunter, spent time outdoors and enjoyed foraging for mushrooms and blueberries.
During retirement, he turned his focus to perfecting the art of pizza making — San Marzano tomatoes and heavy on the oregano!
Preceded in death by his father Lawrence, Michael is survived by mother Helen, wife Patricia, their two sons Michael and Matthew, and granddaughters Magnolia and Charlie Gabriel. Michael is also survived by his brother Larry and sister Suzanne Siroki. Viewing services will be held at McNulty Funeral Home 494 East Butler Dr. Freeland on Friday from 6 to 9PM with a parastas starting at 6:30.
On Saturday, a second viewing will be held from 8-9AM at the funeral home.
Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30am in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Freeland.
Burial will follow in Ss. Peter’s and Paul’s Lutheran cemetery, Freeland.
