Mark J. “Sam” Sosar 50 of Freeland died Saturday in Atlantic City NJ.
Born in Hazleton he was the son of the late John and Agnes (Cherba) Sosar.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Church, Freeland.
Sam was employed as the shipping / receiving manager for Highway Equipment, Drums.
He was a former fire chief of 13 years for the Freeland Fire Department and the current captain of Fearnots Vol. Fire Company. Member of Freeland Ambulance Assn., Hazle Twp. Fire Co., Jeddo Stars -Secretary, Highland Club -Bartender. Social member of the American Legion Post 473 and the VFW post 5010.
Sam enjoyed Monday night bowling at St. Michael’s with the Men’s Classic Bowling League, loved to bowl yearly in the Foundation 58 Tournament and was an avid hoagie maker for local fundraisers.
Surviving is his wife of 25 years the former Brenda Anthony, Daughter; Miranda-Home, Nieces and nephews; Jeffrey, Lindsey, and Don Jr., and his faithful dog Shadey.
Funeral will be held Friday 9:30am from the McNulty Funeral Home 494 East Butler Dr. Freeland with Orthodox Office of Christian Burial 10am in St. Michael’s Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Church, 451 Fern St. Freeland.
Burial will follow in Ss. Peter and Paul’s E.G.C. Cemetery, Freeland.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 to 9pm.
