Marie V. Pingar, 92, formally of Freeland, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Highland Park Senior Living in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Born in Hazleton on September 14, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Mary (Potette) DeLeonardis.

Marie was a 1946 graduate of Hazleton High School and worked at the Duplan Silk Mill in Hazleton, PA. She loved attending Big Band dances where she met her future husband and love of her life, Francis Pingar. They would marry in 1955 and build a life in Freeland where they raised four children.

She was a member Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Freeland.

Marie loved spending time with her family, friends and grandchildren, always cheering them on at their many events. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, traveling, painting and staying fit with Silver Sneakers. Marie especially loved being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was very proud of her Italian heritage, and inspired her children and grandchildren to feel the same. Marie was known for her style and elegance, as she had an eye for fashion and took great pride in her appearance. Most of all, Marie was known for her kindness, her gentle nature and loving disposition to all who knew her.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was her husband, Francis in 2014 and her brother, Jack in 2002.

Marie is survived by her children, Marisa Sowinski and husband, Thomas, Mountaintop; Robert and wife, Janice, West Chester; Karen Saydlowski and husband Karl, Downingtown; and Michele DeAngelo and husband, Paul, Aston; and eight grandchildren, Courtney (Sowinski) Dragoon and husband Chase; Rachel Sowinski; Sarah and Nicole Pingar; and Maria, Giovanna, Marco and Vincent DeAngelo.

In addition to her immediate family, surviving are sisters-in-laws, Mary Nemchik, Glenolden; Claire Havens, Palm Harbor, Fla.; Ann Hydock, Wernersville; and Elizabeth Dudinyak and her husband Richard, Freeland; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish at St. Ann’s Church, 898 Centre St., Freeland, PA 18224. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Burial will follow at Most Precious Blood Cemetery, Hazleton.

The family is eternally grateful to the kind and compassionate care given to “sweet” Marie by the staff at Highland Park Senior Living and The Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish.

McNulty Funeral Home, 494 East Butler Dr., Freeland is in charge of arrangements.
