Joseph A. Karpowich 73 of Freeland passed away at home on December 30th, with his wife by his side.

Born in Freeland he was the son of the late William and Cecilia (Kochie) Karpowich.

He was a member of the former St. Casimir’s Church, Freeland.

Joe was a 1965 graduate of MMI, then attending Penn State University.

Before retiring, he was a forklift operator for the former Berger’s Lumber Yard, Freeland.

Joe was an athlete, playing baseball, basketball, and golf. He won the 1990 Freeland Open. Joe loved architecture, his pets, and working for his father at William Karpowich Construction.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his brother, Victor, and sister-in-law, Barbara Kenvin.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ellen Ann Warner; brothers Bill, Ronnie, Dave, Richie, Bobby, and John “Coon”; sister  Mary Verbonitz; and, brother-in-law Stanley B. Warner. Many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive.

Private burial will be in St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Freeland.

McNulty Funeral Home 494 East Butler Dr. is in charge of arrangements.
