John James Digon 83 of Freeland passed away Wednesday September 4 at the VA Medical Center, Wilkes Barre.
Born in Hazleton on July 18, 1941 he was the son of the late George and Helen (Nitka) Digon.
He was a devout catholic of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic church, Freeland.
John was an honorably discharged Army Veteran.
Before retiring he was a maintenance mechanic for the former Continental White Cap, Hazleton.
He loved spending time with his brothers, family, and his dog Sheba, enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking, picking mushrooms, listing to country music, and was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was Son; John Michael Digon. Brothers; Edward and George.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years the former Marlene Grasso married on June 5, 1965. Son; Christopher and his wife Janice- Sugarloaf. Nieces and nephews; Dave and Cindy Digon, Rob and his wife Polly, and Keith and his wife Cheryl.
Funeral will be held Monday 9:30 from the McNulty Funeral Home 494 East Butler Dr. Freeland. Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church 643 Fern St. Freeland.
Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Freeland.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 to 7pm and on Monday from 9 to 9:30am. Panachida will be held Sunday evening.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic church at the above address or to the Freeland American Legion post 473 at 523 Centre St. Freeland PA 18224, or the VFW Post 5010 at 341 Centre St. Freeland.
