George A. Merenich 94 of Freeland passed away Wednesday August 21 at the VA Medical Center, Wilkes Barre.
Born in Freeland on April 28, 1930 he was the son of the late Wassil ‘Didi’ Merenich & Anna ‘Baba’ (Huskie).
He was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Freeland where he was a former cantor & choir member. George was an honorably discharged Army Veteran, past Commander of the VFW post 5010, and a member of the American Legion post 0815.
Before retiring, he was a Metal Photo Processor at Tobyhanna Army Depot.
George loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his church where he was active for many years.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was Brothers; John, Charles, Andrew, and Nicholas. Sisters; Sophia, Anna, Mary, and Helen. Daughter in law; Cindy also preceded in death.
Surviving are Wife of 61 years the former Veronica Miglas. Sons; George and his wife Amy, John and his wife Holly, Paul and his wife Kelly, and Michael. Daughter; Mary Ann ‘Mare’ Kost and her husband David. Grandchildren; Jessica, Christine, Christopher, Tyler, Aiden, Malia, Michael ‘Mizu’, Dillon, and Heaven. Great Grandchildren; Carmen, Perry, Graham, Margot, Oakleigh, Cosmo, and Oscar. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday August 27 at 10:30am in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 643 Fern St. Freeland.
Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Freeland.
Friends may call at the McNulty Funeral Home 494 East Butler Dr. Freeland on Monday August 26 from 5 to 7pm parastas will be celebrated Monday night. Services are private at the funeral home Tuesday morning.
